West Wimmera Shire Council is recruiting for a suitably experienced and/or qualified candidate as Chairperson for our Audit & Risk Committee. This position is for a term of three years, meetings are convened quarterly and may be attended online.
The Audit & Risk Committee is an advisory committee to Council and consists of two Councillors and three external independent members (one appointed as Chairperson). The primary objective of the Audit and Risk Committee is to assist Council in the effective conduct of its responsibilities for financial reporting, management of risk, maintenance of its internal systems and governance activities.
West Wimmera Shire Council is located in Western Victoria and has a strong economy, primarily based on agriculture with growth sectors in health, education and retail. The Shire covers an area of 9,256 square kilometres and includes the townships of Apsley, Edenhope, Harrow, Goroke, Kaniva and Serviceton.
The successful applicant should possess the following qualities:
• Financial literacy and experience and/or qualifications in business management and/or accounting
• Knowledge of local government operations
• Excellent communication skills
• High levels of personal integrity and ethics
• Demonstrated knowledge of risk management principles and practices
• experience in public sector management

The Chairperson will receive an allowance of $800 (excluding GST) per meeting.
