Kaniva Shire Hall restoration works to start

The scheme is designed for people undergoing treatments such as dialysis or chemotherapy, which can generate large volumes of non-hazardous waste, including dialysis solution bags, tubing, packaging, and gloves.

Free green waste period

West Wimmera Shire Council will again run its annual free green waste fortnight in 2025, providing residents with a free and convenient way to manage excess vegetation and prepare for the summer fire season.
The initiative will run from Saturday, 27 September to Sunday, 12 October 2025 (inclusive), with residents able to dispose of green waste free of charge at all Council transfer stations.

Council calls for drought recognition

West Wimmera Shire Council has called on the State Government to expand the drought declaration area to cover the entire shire.
Council agreed at a meeting on Wednesday to provide support to eligible primary producers through the State Government’s Primary Producer Support Payment Program.
The program helps farmers affected by drought to meet their general rates and municipal charges.

Funding to upgrade major road in West Wimmera Shire

West Wimmera Shire Council has secured new funding to continue upgrades to the Kadnook-Connewirricoo Road.
Council received $1.2 million from the Federal Government’s Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program for the design and construct of the road.
The project will widen and strengthen a 3.72-kilometre section of the road, increasing the seal width to 6.2 metres.

Celebrate seniors in West Wimmera

West Wimmera Shire Council will celebrate the 2025 Victorian Seniors Festival with a series of free community events, beginning with a special Muster Dogs showcase.
The event at the Kaniva Recreation Reserve will be on October 9 from 10:30am. It will feature guest speakers Helen McDonald, Jack Kennedy, Kim Dodson and Rob Tuncks from the hit ABC series Muster Dogs.

Community Strengthening Grants to open

Kindergarten open days for 2026
