Transition of Maternal and Child Health Services
From November 3, 2025, Maternal and Child Health Services will transition from West Wimmera Shire Council to West Wimmera Health Services. Below is a list of frequently asked questions about this transition. We thank families for their continued support and understanding as we work together to enhance early years health and wellbeing in our community.
What is changing?
The Maternal and Child Health Services currently delivered by West Wimmera Shire Council will transfer to West Wimmera Health Service. This means West Wimmera Health Service will become the new provider responsible for managing and delivering Maternal and Child Health Services across the shire.
When will this change happen?
The current planned changeover date is 3 November. However, this is reliant upon confirmation from the Fair Work Commission that it is satisfied that the terms and conditions of the transferring employees are appropriately maintained upon transfer. This process can sometimes take longer than envisaged and therefore it is possible that the changeover date will be delayed by a relatively short period.
What does this mean for families?
Families will continue to receive the same high-quality, free Maternal and Child Health Services, including key age and stage visits, perinatal emotional health support, immunisations, new parent support, and early years advice.
Will I still see the same nurse?
Yes. Families will continue to see the same qualified MCH nurses they know and trust. The same caring team will remain in place under the new management of WWHS.
Do I need to re-enrol or change appointments?
No. All existing appointments, records, and service plans will transfer automatically to West Wimmera Health Service. Families do not need to take any action.
Will services still be offered in the same locations?
Yes. MCH sessions will continue to be offered in the same towns and venues as before at Kaniva, Edenhope, Goroke and Harrow, ensuring local access for all families across the West Wimmera Shire.
Who do I contact after the changeover date?
After the changeover date, families can contact West Wimmera Health Service for any Maternal and Child Health enquiries or appointments. Contact details will be provided closer to the transition date and shared through Council’s and West Wimmera Health Service’s communication channels.
What will happen to my child’s health records?
All MCH records will be securely transferred to West Wimmera Health Service in line with relevant privacy and health information legislation. Your family’s information will remain confidential and protected.
Will this change affect other Council services?
No. The transfer only affects the Maternal and Child Health Service. All other Council services will continue to operate as usual.
Who can I speak to if I have questions?
