Community Local Law
Councils use local laws to respond to issues and community needs within a municipality. These local laws complement their responsibilities and powers under both state and federal laws. Where appropriate, Councils may introduce local laws, or by-laws to exercise these powers.
Local Law No. 9 of 2023: Community Local Law
The Community Local Law controls activities requiring permits, which include
- Storage of vehicles and machinery
- Keeping animals in excess of that permitted in clause 8 – Keeping excess Animals and Reptiles
- Camping on land in township exceeding 28 days
- Mobile vendors operating from council land
Activities prohibited under the Community Local Law include:
- Consumption of alcohol on roads or in car parks within shopping precincts
- Consumption and possession of alcohol on reserves from
- Untidy and dangerous premises
- Owner or occupier must ensure that pest animals or noxious weeds are not present or grown on his or her land
- Unregistered vehicles on roads or council land
