Community grants awarded to 10 groups

West Wimmera Shire Council has awarded money to 10 community groups as part of its grants program.
The groups will receive funding under round one of Council’s 2024/2025 Community Strengthening Grants program.
Council approved the applications at a meeting on Wednesday.
Goroke Golf Club will receive $5000 to install Bluetooth controllers for its sprinkler system, allowing for automated irrigation management.
The Johnny Mullagh Interpretive Centre in Harrow will receive $4662.35 to purchase fencing for Johnny Mullagh Oval, enhancing the cricket facilities and the site's historical appeal.
Edenhope Tourism will be awarded $3333 to conduct a geophysical survey using ground-penetrating radar to locate unmarked graves in the monumental section of Edenhope Cemetery.
Apsley Action Group will receive $2133.33 to create and install new historical signs to expand the town's heritage walk.
Henley on Lake Wallace will receive $2231 for the purchase of equipment, including marquees, tables, and chairs, to ensure the safety and comfort of volunteers at their annual festival.
Lake Bringalbert Foreshore Committee has been granted $1273 to install new signage that will promote the lake’s facilities and provide information for camping donations.
Crossroads Tennis Club in Edenhope will receive $1246 for the installation of a playground to encourage both senior and junior participation in tennis.
Edenhope Men's Shed will be awarded $614 for the purchase of a bench grinder and sharpening jig, assisting with tool maintenance and offering support for members with disabilities.
Serviceton Bowls Club will receive $666.67 to replace the blind on the club’s west-facing window, protecting workers and facilities from the harsh summer sun.
Kaniva Senior Citizens has been granted $532 to purchase 12 lightweight, commercial-grade chairs, making it easier for members to move them around the Senior Citizens building.
Mayor Tim Meyer expressed his support for these projects, highlighting the positive impact they will have on local communities.
"These grants are supporting a wide range of projects that will benefit our communities, from preserving local history to improving public facilities and providing essential equipment," he said.
“These are all worthy projects that will help these groups complete much-needed upgrades.”
The Community Strengthening Grants program is designed to promote community participation, build local networks, and support skill development.
Grants of up to $10,000 are available each year for initiatives in categories such as community projects, events, facilities upgrades, and major projects.
