West Wimmera Shire Council is developing a Master Plan for the Kaniva Recreation Reserve to guide decision-making and community and council investment over the next ten years.

The plan will focus on improving facilities, increasing participation in sport and active recreation, and ensuring the reserve meets the needs of the community now and into the future.

Kaniva Recreation Reserve is home to an oval, netball courts, hockey fields, a skate park, show society buildings, the Kaniva Community Hub, the Kaniva Sporting Complex, and playgrounds.

The Master Plan will assess community demand for potential new facilities.

Mayor Tim Meyer encouraged the community to get involved in shaping the plan.

“We want to hear from local residents about what their priorities are for the Recreation Reserve,” he said.

“The advantage of a master plan, is that it will make it easier to look and apply for funding opportunities”

Community members can share their views by completing a survey or collecting a hard copy from the Council office at Kaniva.

Drop-in sessions will also be held in front of Doyle’s IGA on Saturday, 12 April, from 9am to 11am and at Kaniva Recreation Reserve from 1pm to 3pm on the same day.
