About the project

West Wimmera Shire Council is applying for funding to install a galvanised steel handrail on the existing jetty at Lake Wallace in Edenhope, through the Victorian Fisheries Authority’s Recreational Fishing Grants Program.

The proposed handrail will be one metre high (above the jetty floor) and 75 metres in length, matching the existing structure on one side. To provide flexibility throughout the year, a small section will be designed to be removable, accommodating seasonal water level changes and varying recreational use.

Why is this project important?

This upgrade responds to strong community support and is identified as a priority within the West Wimmera Lake Wallace Strategic Plan. Installing a handrail on the existing jetty will:

  • Improve safety for all users, especially children, elderly anglers, and people with mobility challenges

  • Increase accessibility for families and community members who enjoy recreational fishing

  • Reduce the risk of slips or accidents at the water’s edge

  • Support visitation and recreational use of Lake Wallace year-round

Next steps

The funding application has been submitted to the Victorian Fisheries Authority. If successful, works will be scheduled to align with optimal conditions and community access needs.
