About the project

West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking funding through the Victorian Government's Tiny Towns Fund to deliver the Lake Wallace Shelter project in Edenhope.

The project proposes the construction of a shelter at the Lake Wallace parkrun finish area to improve comfort, accessibility and safety for volunteers, participants and visitors using the Lake Wallace walking trail.

If funding is secured, the shelter will enhance the walking trail experience while providing a practical and welcoming space for parkrun volunteers, participants and other trail users.

Scope

The proposed project involves the construction of a new 3m x 3m shelter at the Lake Wallace Parkrun finish area to provide weather protection and improve the overall experience for trail users.

The shelter will feature a roof structure, three transparent wall panels, a bench seat, and a small water tank with tap. The structure would be built on a concrete slab to ensure durability and accessibility.

Why this project is important

The Lake Wallace Shelter project will strengthen an important community space that supports health, wellbeing and social connection in Edenhope.

Since commencing in 2022, Edenhope Lake Wallace parkrun has become a significant community initiative, attracting participants of all ages and abilities from across the region and beyond. The event provides a free and inclusive opportunity for people to engage in regular physical activity while building social connections and community spirit.

Currently, there is no weather protection available at the parkrun finish area or along the walking trail. Volunteers and participants are regularly exposed to rain, wind and cold conditions, creating challenges for event delivery and the storage of essential equipment. ar.

The project aligns with Council's commitment to supporting healthy, connected and resilient communities by improving public infrastructure, encouraging active lifestyles and creating welcoming spaces that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
