Community Strengthening Grants awarded to four groups

West Wimmera Shire Council has awarded $20,000 to four community groups as part of its Community Strengthening Grants program.
The grants were approved at Council’s October meeting as part of round 1 of the 2026-27 program.
The funding supports projects that address local needs, strengthen community connections and encourage community participation.
Kaniva Playgroup, Apsley Pony Club, Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club and Lake Charlegrark Recreation Reserve Committee will each receive $5000.
Kaniva Playgroup will purchase safety matting and soft-play equipment to establish a regular Kinder Gym program in Kaniva.
The program will offer structured movement sessions for children aged five and under at Kaniva Shire Hall.
Apsley Pony Club will replace eight deteriorating timber horse yards with new steel yards. The project will also include a double wash bay with a concrete floor.
Edenhope-Apsley Football Netball Club will replace its existing clubroom doors.
The upgrades aim to improve safety, security, accessibility and energy efficiency.
Lake Charlegrark Recreation Reserve Committee will build a shelter over the existing onsite caravan and annexe.
The shelter will provide a more comfortable living space for caretakers managing the community-run caravan park.
Mayor Helen Hobbs said Council was pleased to support local community organisations through the funding program.
“These grants will help local groups improve their facilities and provide more opportunities for people of all ages to participate in community life,” she said.
The Community Strengthening Grants Program supports community participation, local partnerships and leadership development.
The program offers two funding rounds each year.
Grants are available for community projects, facilities upgrades and equipment purchases.
