West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking community feedback as part of investigations into potential childcare services in Goroke.

Council is investigating funding through the Australian Government’s Building Early Education Fund.

The funding supports the building or expansion of early childhood education and care services.

The proposed project would expand the existing Goroke Kindergarten building to accommodate a future long day care service for children aged 0 to 5 years.

Council is also in the early stages of exploring operating models for the service.

A community survey is now open to gather feedback from local families to help gauge interest and inform the planning process.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said access to childcare continued to be an important issue for families across the region and a key focus identified in the West Wimmera Shire Council Plan 2025-2029.

“Access to childcare plays a vital role in supporting local families, workforce participation and the long-term sustainability of rural communities,” he said.

“Council is committed to exploring what may be possible for Goroke, while ensuring the community is informed and involved throughout the process.”

The survey will help Council understand local demand, needs and priorities, while also helping shape early service design considerations and ensuring any future development reflects the needs of the Goroke community.

Mr Bezuidenhout said community feedback would be critical to the investigation process.

“We know childcare is an important issue for many families across the shire,” he said.

“It is important that this work reflects the needs of Goroke families.”

The survey takes approximately five minutes to complete and is now available online at https://forms.gle/LQxNgB3f8sCCEJY89

Further updates will be provided to the community as investigations progress.

Anyone seeking further information is encouraged to contact West Wimmera Shire Council on 13 99 72.
