Council endorses plans for future Goroke pool upgrades

West Wimmera Shire Council has endorsed schematic designs for upgrades to the Goroke Swimming Centre, providing a pathway for future investment in the ageing community facility.
The plans outline proposed improvements to changerooms and amenities, pool access, plant and equipment, and supporting site infrastructure.
The new changeroom and amenities building is proposed to include family and group change options, first aid facilities, storage and an accessible toilet with baby change and shower facilities.
Other proposed works include a pool entry ramp, wet deck, new pool plant and equipment, pathways, landscaping and shade structures.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said endorsing the designs was an important step towards securing future funding and planning for the long-term sustainability of the facility.
“The Goroke Swimming Centre is an important community asset, and these plans provide a clear direction for its future renewal,” he said.
“The designs have considered community feedback, accessibility and inclusion, and the needs of people using the facility. Having these plans in place will help Council respond to future funding opportunities.”
The designs were developed with support from Sport and Recreation Victoria, through the Victorian Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, and informed by consultation with facility users and community feedback.
The planning process also considered aquatic infrastructure guidelines, accessibility requirements and female-friendly facility standards.
While the endorsed designs and indicative costings position Council to pursue future funding opportunities, significant external funding and local contributions will be required before construction can proceed.
The upgrades may be delivered in stages, depending on funding availability, project priorities and Council budget considerations.
The project was identified as a priority in Council’s 2025-26 Annual Plan, reflecting the importance of renewing ageing infrastructure to support continued use of the swimming centre.
