West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking funding to help transform the Kaniva Bowling Club into a fully accessible and inclusive facility.
The $825,000 proposed project will upgrade the club with a new bowling green and improved accessibility, making it welcoming for everyone in the community.
Council will apply for funding from the State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
The project will include the construction of a new synthetic bowling green, installation of energy-efficient LED lighting, installations of new accessible toilet facilities, and construction of accessible pathways throughout the facility.
These upgrades will provide a modern and accessible environment for both casual bowlers and those with disabilities, supporting the growth of lawn bowls in the region.
To deliver the project, Council has undertaken the scoping and planning, including design works, will lodge the application, and be responsible for the overall delivery of the project.
In addition, Council will contribute $41,250, while the Kaniva Bowling Club will contribute $123,750.
Council will apply for $660,000 in funding from the state government.
Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said this vital upgrade of the Kaniva Bowling Club was an important project for the community.
“The Kaniva Bowling All-Abilities Upgrade Project will make the sport of lawn bowls more accessible to everyone in the community, regardless of their abilities,” he said.
“This project aligns with Council’s commitment to providing inclusive and accessible recreation spaces for everyone.
“If our funding application is successful, the project will significantly improve the local sporting infrastructure and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the Kaniva Bowling Club, encouraging greater participation in lawn bowls and other community activities.”
