Flood investigation

West Wimmera Shire Council is inviting residents to provide feedback on new flood maps for Edenhope and Apsley.

Council has carried out flood investigations in Edenhope and Apsley and has prepared the draft flood maps, which are now available for community viewing and feedback.

Council will host two drop-in sessions to gather local knowledge, ensuring the maps' accuracy and effectiveness.

Drop-in sessions will be at:

  • Apsley Hall, Tuesday, 6 August, 4pm to 7pm
  • Edenhope and District Community Centre, Wednesday, 7 August, 4pm to 7pm

Council Chief Executive David Bezuidenhout said residents should review the maps and attend one of the drop-in sessions.

“We want people to come along to these sessions and share their knowledge of flooding in the area,” he said.

“Floods are one of the most predictable disasters we face. By involving the community in these investigations, we can better analyse the magnitude, frequency, and impact of flooding, and direct future development in a way that minimises risk.”

Flood investigations predict the time it takes for rain to transform into flooding on the floodplain with varying precision.

The Edenhope and Apsley flood investigations will provide critical information for future land use and development.

"The community’s input is invaluable in shaping these flood investigations,” Mr Bezuidenhout said.
