West Wimmera Shire Council will seek State Government funding to deliver new footpaths in Kaniva, Goroke and Edenhope.
Council endorsed an application to the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program at its meeting on Wednesday.
The proposed project would deliver three priority footpath connections aimed at improving pedestrian safety, accessibility and connectivity across the municipality.
The projects include 215 metres of new footpath in Edinburgh Road, Edenhope, connecting Orme Street to Wilson Street and improving access between the main street and recreation reserve.
In Kaniva, 110 metres of new footpath is proposed for Webb Street, connecting Roache Street to Commercial Street and improving links between the recreation reserve and township centre.
A further 126 metres of new footpath is proposed for Compston Street, Goroke, connecting Church Street to Main Street and improving access between the kindergarten, school and township centre.
The total project budget is $181,171.
Council has committed $75,900 through its 2026-27 draft budget toward the works.
The funding application seeks $105,271 through the Flexible Local Transport Solutions Program to enable all three projects to be delivered.
Mayor Cr Tim Meyer said the proposed works would address important gaps in existing township footpath networks.
“These projects will improve accessibility and safety for residents and visitors across our communities,” he said.
“Safe and accessible footpaths are especially important in rural areas where public transport options are limited.
“The proposed connections will help people of all abilities move more easily between key community facilities including schools, recreation reserves, kindergartens and town centres.”
The projects were identified through community feedback, accessibility planning and Council’s broader township footpath network improvement program.
