Published on 10 July 2026
West Wimmera Shire Council will recognise outstanding members of the community through its annual Senior Citizen of the Year award.
Nominations open on July 17 and anyone over the age of 60 can be nominated.
The Senior Citizen of the Year award recognises an unsung hero from across West Wimmera Shire.
Winners are often someone who continues to be active in the community and encourages others to do the same.
They demonstrate a positive attitude towards ageing and community wellbeing and have continued to make a valuable contribution to the community since turning 60.
Mayor Tim Meyer said there were many people in the shire who made an outstanding contribution to their community.
“If they are aged over 60, this is an excellent opportunity to nominate them for Senior Citizen of the Year,” he said.
“There are many quiet achievers within our local communities who deserve recognition.
“We encourage people to start thinking about who they can nominate for this award.”
Nomination forms will be available online at www.westwimmera.vic.gov.au.
Forms can also be collected from the customer service centres at Edenhope and Kaniva.
Nominations will close at 5pm on Monday 17 August 2026, and the winner will be selected by Council in a closed session at the September 2026 Council meeting.
The winner will be announced at West Wimmera Shire Council’s Seniors Concert in Edenhope on 29 October.
This year’s concert will feature Diamonds in the Rough – a Neil Diamond tribute show.
