Seniors to enjoy afternoon of Neil Diamond classics
Published on 01 September 2026
West Wimmera Shire Council will celebrate local seniors with an afternoon of music, community and recognition at its annual seniors concert in October.
The free event will be held at the Edenhope and District Community Centre on Thursday 29 October, commencing at 1.30pm.
The concert forms part of the Victorian Seniors Festival, which provides opportunities for Victorians aged 60 and over to get involved in activities, connect with others and enjoy events in their local communities.
A highlight of this year’s concert will be Diamonds in the Rough, a tribute show celebrating the music of legendary singer-songwriter Neil Diamond.
Audiences can expect an afternoon of some of Neil Diamond’s best-known songs, with the tribute show bringing his much-loved music to the Edenhope stage.
The concert will also include the presentation of the 2026 West Wimmera Senior Citizen of the Year award.
The annual award recognises a West Wimmera resident who has made a significant contribution to the community and continues to make a difference through their involvement, dedication and service to others.
West Wimmera Shire Council Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said the concert was an opportunity to recognise the contribution of older residents while providing an enjoyable afternoon for the community.
“Our seniors make an important contribution to the West Wimmera community in so many different ways,” he said.
“The annual concert is a great opportunity to recognise that contribution, celebrate our Senior Citizen of the Year and simply come together for an enjoyable afternoon.”
Following the concert, guests will be treated to a free afternoon tea.
A bus will also run from Kaniva and Goroke to Edenhope for the concert, providing transport for seniors wanting to attend from these communities.
Bus bookings are limited and essential, so those wishing to use the service are encouraged to book early by calling 13 99 72.
Mr Bezuidenhout encouraged local seniors to make a booking and enjoy the afternoon with friends and members of the wider community.
“We look forward to welcoming seniors from across the Shire to Edenhope for what promises to be a wonderful afternoon of music, entertainment and connection,” he said.
Bookings are essential and can be made by calling West Wimmera Shire Council on 13 99 72 or through Eventbrite.
