Pop-up playgroup invites dads and carers to Kaniva wetlands

Dads, grandads, uncles, step-parents and other special people in children’s lives are invited to a free pop-up playgroup in Kaniva.
Hosted by West Wimmera Shire Council, the event will be held at the Kaniva Wetlands & Fauna Park on Thursday, 1 October from 11.30am.
Children can explore the park with characters from Wombat Stew and join Dingo on a quest to create the ultimate Wombat Stew.

Free green waste period

West Wimmera Shire Council will again run its annual free green waste fortnight in 2026, providing residents with a free and convenient way to manage excess vegetation and prepare for the summer fire season.
The initiative will run from Saturday, 26 September to Sunday, 11 October 2026 (inclusive), with residents able to dispose of green waste free of charge at all Council transfer stations.

Seniors to enjoy afternoon of Neil Diamond classics

West Wimmera Shire Council will celebrate local seniors with an afternoon of music, community and recognition at its annual seniors concert in October.
The free event will be held at the Edenhope and District Community Centre on Thursday 29 October, commencing at 1.30pm.
The concert forms part of the Victorian Seniors Festival.

Free sausage sizzle and a chat

Free sausage sizzle and a chat is a local outreach event providing an opportunity for community members to drop in, grab a cuppa and have a relaxed chat with the Uniting team. The team will be available to answer enquiries, provide support and connect people with mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), homelessness and other Uniting programs. No appointment is required.

Draft Amendment C38wwim – Flood Studies

West Wimmera Shire Council is exhibiting Draft Amendment C38wwim to the West Wimmera Planning Scheme.

The draft amendment proposes to implement updated flood modelling for local catchments and introduce updated flood-related planning controls in Harrow and Chetwynd. It also makes administrative changes to existing flood overlays in Dergholm and Connewirricoo.
