Council responds to community concern

West Wimmera Shire Council is aware of community concern following the recent conviction of Indigenous elder Ron Marks for possessing child abuse material.
Mr Marks previously visited kindergartens and playgroups across the shire as part of cultural incursions.
These visits occurred after his arrest in 2021 but prior to his conviction.

Funding boost for three sporting projects

West Wimmera Shire Council has secured funding for three infrastructure projects in Goroke and Kaniva, supporting safer, more accessible and modern sporting facilities.
Council has secured $1.308 million from the State Government’s Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund round two, for three separate projects:

The budget reflects careful planning, balancing an estimated income of $26.45 million against expenses of $29.29 million.

West Wimmera Shire Council formally adopted its Budget and Annual Plan for 2025/26 at its Council Meeting on 27 June 2022.

Copies of the adopted 2025​/26 Budget and Annual Plan are available for inspection at Council’s Customer Service Centres at Baker Street, Kaniva and Elizabeth Street, Edenhope, and on Council’s website.

Dinosaur Time Machine

09 July 2025

Bring the whole family along for a fun and educational adventure as Dinosaur Time Machine visits Kaniva during the July school holidays.

This entertaining show combines science, circus, puppetry and imagination to explore the fascinating world of dinosaurs. Kids will be taken on a journey through time with two adventurers who uncover prehistoric facts and meet a life-sized juvenile T-Rex.

Emissions and Productivity Workshop - Apsley

15 July 2025

A free workshop in Apsley will give local farmers valuable insights into the link between agricultural emissions and farm productivity. With new legislative requirements for large businesses and financial institutions to report on carbon emissions, supply chain pressure is mounting for farmers to provide their own data.
