Community Satisfaction Survey interviews to start

West Wimmera Shire Council is seeking information from residents about Council’s performance and community satisfaction.
Independent market research agency National Field Services is conducting a Community Satisfaction Survey on behalf of West Wimmera Shire Council.
From January 20, through to mid-March, households might receive a call from National Field Services.

Celebrate Australia Day in West Wimmera Shire

West Wimmera Shire will celebrate Australia Day 2025 with a series of community events across the region.
Mayor Tim Meyer encouraged residents to head along to the community events.
"Australia Day is a time to celebrate the achievements of our community and come together to acknowledge the people who make West Wimmera such a wonderful place to live,” he said.

Road naming to honour Kaniva nurse

West Wimmera Shire Council will name a Lillimur road ‘Zenda Lane’ in honour of a former Kaniva Maternal and Child Health Nurse.

At a meeting last month, Council approved the naming of an unnamed road off D Hawkers Road in Lillimur to Zenda Lane, paying tribute to the late Mrs Zenda Hawker.

Mrs Hawker lived on the property alongside the now-named Zenda Lane, where she raised her five children.

Justification and assessment determines Kaniva lake not feasible

West Wimmera Shire Council has concluded that construction of a man-made lake in Kaniva is not feasible at this time, following a thorough investigation and cost analysis.
Council investigated constructing a 200m by 400m lake at the Kaniva Racecourse Reserve after significant community interest.

Council urges property owners to act on fire prevention notices

West Wimmera Shire Council is reminding residents to comply with Fire Prevention Notices to reduce the risk posed by long grass.

Council has issued numerous Fire Prevention Notices over the past few months and is now urging residents to maintain properties and comply with notices.

Chief Executive Officer David Bezuidenhout said Council was aware of properties in the shire that require attention.

Wimmera 72 website provides important emergency information

As we head into the holiday season, the Wimmera Emergency Management Team is reminding people to visit their Wimmera72 website to help them plan and prepare for emergencies.
Co-ordinator Kristi Sullivan said that while the Wimmera is a stunning part of Western Victoria, it can also be quite dangerous.

Contracts awarded for management of key community facilities

New lease for Kaniva’s Windmill Cafe

West Wimmera Shire Council has leased the Kaniva Windmill Café and Visitor Information Centre to Kaniva businesswoman Jemma Hill.
Mrs Hill, along with her husband Jason, currently own Kaniva Floor and Décor. She plans to open the café and visitor information centre in early 2025.
The lease term is for three years, with the option for two additional one-year renewals.
